Dr. Lech

A quiet, pensive man with good intentions, however mad he may have been, Dr. Ferdinand Lech set out to solve some of the nagging problems of civilization. Of particular concern to Lech was the enormous amount of waste and detritus generated by our civilization. He set out to do something about it.
In the natural world every scrap of waste is food for another organism. Lech realized that we would be buried alive in our waste before evolution could catch up to our waste generation. Lech deduced that for this unnatural problem an unnatural solution was in order. He set out to create the 'Gastropod' (walking stomach), a man-size creature, in most cases, which is mostly mouth and stomach and gives new meaning to the term 'omnivore' - it is capable of digesting nearly anything. Lech designed his creatures so that each is specialized in digesting a different class of materials. Lech envisioned a world where garbage trucks and landfills were replaced with harmless gastropods grazing like so many cows on the litter and refuse of civilization, leaving in their wake neat little lumps of refined material as a resource to be collected and recycled. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way. Instead of leaving behind a waste product that was a valuable resource the gastropod's stool was an exceedingly foul smelling and toxic substance which was difficult and expensive to clean up. In addition the gastropod proved impossible to housebreak.
